How the Resource Directory works

Listings are checked against available sources, but they are leads—not endorsements; families should confirm current ages, eligibility, insurance, cost, and availability directly.

A Village Pick reflects repeated recommendations from local families and is never paid; public Google ratings are a separate third-party signal.

Little Luminaries owns this site, is labeled as an affiliated practice, and cannot receive a Village Pick or featured placement.

Feeding Therapy

18 listings

Feeding therapy — picky eating, oral-motor work, myofunctional therapy, and medical or swallowing feeding — from every practice whose website names feeding as a service.

“Feeding therapy” covers three genuinely different things. Sensory feeding is for restricted diets driven by texture, smell, or aversion. Myofunctional and oral-motor work is for tongue function, oral habits, and breathing patterns. Medical and swallowing feeding (dysphagia, aspiration risk, tube weaning) is the highest-stakes kind and needs a practice that names it. Where a practice’s website says which kind it does, its service tags say so — otherwise, ask that question first.

ABA therapy providers

20 listings

Center-based and in-home ABA around Middle Tennessee. Google ratings show where a provider has 15 or more reviews (score links to the live listing) — use the sort, then interview like crazy.

Before choosing: read our plain-English guide 'ABA: Pros & Cons' (in the Resource Library) for the questions worth asking any provider. A rating is one signal, not a verdict — providers without one simply have fewer than 15 public reviews — and waitlists change monthly, so always call.

Therapeutic horseback riding

4 listings

Motor skills, regulation, and confidence on horseback — and Middle Tennessee is home to the state's standout program.

Three different things live under “horses”: hippotherapy (a licensed OT, PT, or SLP using the horse’s movement as part of treatment — the only one sometimes billable to insurance), therapeutic riding (adaptive riding instruction, usually private pay), and recreational riding in an adaptive setting. They cost different amounts — listings say which is which wherever the program does.

RBT + BCBA staffed · Max 2 children

Eagleville · No local Google rating

Ages birth–17

A structured behavioral program delivered in an equine setting — not recreational riding. The 15-week Galloping Towards Success curriculum pairs each child with a horsemanship instructor who is also a registered behavior technician, plus a second RBT, under BCBA supervision, with never more than two children at a time. Their own materials are honest that research on equine-assisted therapy for autism is still thin — the structure and staffing are the reason families come. Free tour to see if it fits.

Public school with an IEP is the default path — general education first, more support only as data shows it's needed. When that's not working, Middle Tennessee has real alternatives.

Money note: Tennessee's IEA program (see Homeschool section) can put state education dollars toward several of these private options for students with qualifying IEPs.

Franklin

Ages 9–12

A mainstream private school built on one-to-one classes — one student, one teacher, in person or virtually — for grades 4–12. It is not a special-education program: Fusion describes serving students with learning, social, or emotional differences (ADHD, anxiety, dyslexia, gifted) inside a general school model. It accepts Tennessee IEA and Education Freedom Scholarship funds toward tuition, and the state’s 2026–27 IEA list carries it as grades 6–12 in an inclusive setting.

Curriculum / product Online · ~$40/mo

The online curriculum many special-needs homeschoolers start with — PreK–12 core subjects, self-paced with auto-grading and a parent dashboard; their own site names autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and Down syndrome as learners it's built for. Roughly $39.95/month for the first child; usable with IEA/ESA funds.

Lists we’re still building

These categories exist because families asked for them; they fill in as village families recommend people they trust.

Pediatricians great with autistic kids

Every village has its quiet list of pediatricians who just get it. We're building ours from real family recommendations — not ads. Tell us who your family loves and why (contact page → 'Suggest a provider'). Once a practice is recommended by multiple village families, it earns a spot here.
